HNZ have made the CoachMate App available to clubs for free - this is a great tool for planning trainings

COHA Player Handbook

Central Otago Hockey Association is our governing association and they publish the Players Handbook on the resources page of their website, it has all the information you will need about the grade you are coaching in (format, rules, etc.), and ideas for practice games/drills.

HNZ’s Coaching Resource Hub and Sportshub

The Coaching Resource Hub and Sportshub have a lot of information around how to plan a training session, plus videos and podcasts.

Coaching Ticket & HNZ training portal

Hockey New Zealand encourages all coaches to get their “coaching ticket” by completing a short training on the HNZ training portal. Think of it like a coaching WOF, it is pretty quick. The training portal also has training for things like coaching small sticks, coaching fundamentals, coaching goalkeepers (recommended for Kiwi and up) etc.

Instagram

There is a ton of great content with games/drills ideas from other sport and hockey coaches around the world on insta and tik tok, some of my favorites are:

Balance is Better

HNZ follows Sport NZ’s Balance is Better philosophy & there are a lot of great resources here to support the approach.
